What happened to CNN+?

With AT&T merging the Warner brothers and Discovery at a deal of $43 billion, the company announced a subscription-based news streaming service -CNN+. Warner bros. Discovery announced this service on the 29th of March 2022 in an attempt to bring a spectacular news streaming media service to the viewers. The company also ran a multimillion dollars ad campaign with the addition of high-profile personalities like Chris Wallace (Fox News), Audie Cornish(NPR), Kasie Hunt (MSNBC), and on-air CNN personalities such as Anderson Cooper, Brian Stelter, and Jake Tapper. In addition to live news, content covered a variety of categories such as travel, food, and interviews.

However, Warner bros Discovery suffered a severe setback because of the disastrous performance in CNN+ viewing numbers; therefore, they finally decided to shut it down. The news streaming service had a viewership of fewer than 10,000 people. The Guiding force - the president of CNN+ already left a month before its launch. The chief executive of WarnerMedia, Jason Kilar too, left a week later, which resulted in the bad management of the corporation. Furthermore, CNN+ lacked an ad-based model, which worsened its situation. All of These conditions led to a conclusion to shut it down completely. Warnermedia has announced to shut the service by the 30th of April and will refund the subscription amount soon.

In an era of several streaming giants competing with each other, other streaming service providers must organize and formulate their plans accordingly in streaming wars and carefully execute their vision in the right direction.
